Excalibur Solutions has also taken several systems based on older, more expensive proprietary platforms and successfully ported the applications and hardware functionality to Unix based systems. A side advantage to the porting of an existing system, the software can be upgraded to current technology. This can decrease software maintenance costs and add 'life' to the application.

The current 'hot' system is based on the Alpha processor by Digital Equipment. These Alpha processor based systems are currently some of the fastest on the market, but also one the most difficult to program, especially at the driver level. This is because Dec Unix on the Alpha has a multi-layered I/O sub-system. Excalibur Solutions has produced several successful projects utilizing Alpha based systems.
